I licensed my downloaded copy of Visual Web Developer 2008 immediately after installing it.
As of today, though, when I try to launch it, although it does say "This product is licensed" on the splash screen, a Product Registration dialog displays on top of it, asking me to either register or enter my registration key.
I have a registration key somewhere, I guess, as I did register it; but how can I locate it now? Is my registration key stored somewhere (in the registry, presumably)?
OTOH, if I try to "start over again" I have problems, too: When I select the "Register Now" link and enter my email address and password in the site that loads, the page:
https://profile.microsoft.com/ProductActivation/ProductActivation.aspx?lcid=1033&h=b687a6371cb56e59&pid=76872-000-0000011-00123
never opens (it just remains blank, a sea of whiteness ("white screen of death"?).
Is my best bet to uninstall the no-longer launching version of VWD2008 and download a "fresh" copy of VWD2008, or what?
FWIW, VWD 2005, which I registered in the same manner as VWD 2008, still launches just fine...
Hi ClayShannon,
The product registration of Visual Studio is optional, it is different from entering product key. From your description, it seems Visual Web Developer 2008 can recognize your product key correctly. Then if you choose to register Visual Studio by providing your name, e-mail address, and other contact information, you can also choose to receive information about product updates and other special offers.
